The Story

Darian Ashveil was a drug detective. He was good at it — reading people, reading scenes, knowing when something didn't add up. None of that prepared him for this.

Pulled through a portal into Athenmere — a world of purple grass, blue-barked trees, and magic that hums on frequency and resonance — Darian killed a man to survive the crossing. But the killing wasn't clean. Something transferred. Something settled inside him that he can feel but can't name.

Now he carries a sword that chose him, a power he never asked for, and a target on his back. The people hunting him aren't bandits or soldiers. They're organized. Connected. And they want what he's carrying.

The only allies he has are a woman who seems to know more about his arrival than she should, a company of travelers heading deeper into a continent he doesn't understand, and a detective's instinct telling him that the man he killed was only the beginning.

In Athenmere, magic has rules. So does survival. Darian is learning both the hard way.
